How to turn pain into purpose
I have always been a fan of beginnings. It’s like when you catch an early morning sunrise and you wait in anticipation for what you’re going to get.
I remember the first time coming to Tanzania 10 years ago….not knowing what to expect…nervous…but so so ready. That’s kind of how I feel about this blog.
It’s our first post & so we wanted to give you something that I know 10 years ago would have helped me on my own volunteer & internship experience in Tanzania. You know there’s the stuff that nobody says, but I wish we all would say.
I am not going to lie…I have often been discouraged by what I have seen with volunteer tourism.
So many times people come in as the “helper” without bringing their full self to the experience & they miss out--because so often it’s the struggle that leads us to our purpose.
In this video tutorial we have partnered with an amazing disability activist from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania--Aneth Gerana. She started an NGO called FUWAVITA after facing employment discrimination for being Deaf.
She took an experience that other used to define her and transformed it into her life’s mission, supporting other women along the way.
You have the potential to do the same. I see it and know it to be true.
Here are the 4 steps you can take right away to transform a struggle into your purpose so that you don’t have to waste another moment asking yourself “Is this all there is?
Step 1: Name the struggle
Step 2: Lean into feeling good
Step 3: Allow yourself to grow
Step 4: Share it with others
Now I challenge you….can you name something that you think is holding you back & 1 thing that makes you feel good –so that you can share that with others.
Check out our full tutorial with Aneth so you can begin living the life that you deserve. A life that is based on purpose, passion & joy--rather than struggling to wait for the weekend.
With love on the journey,
Lauren
