FAQs about the projects

But I wanna be a special education teacher. Why aren’t you placing me with a school?

  • It’s simple. You design a volunteer project our partner can use to improve school access for youth living with a disability.

  •  If we place you at a school, it is taking away jobs from local teachers & that’s not what we’re about.

Do you work with a lot of NGOS?

  • No. In each country we work with only 1 NGO per cause & are proud to work with FUWAVITA in supporting women living with disabilities.

  •  Why? Because many organizations are less effective than a few scrappy, powerhouse women led ones working together.

Ps. Not gonna lie, we love this

Why women led only organizations?

  • Because when you invest in a woman, she invests in her community.

  • & You give her the capital to change the world.

Do you pay the NGOs or donate to them?

  • We are honored to be providing meaningful work to the partners we work with. When they work with you, they get paid to share their expertise.

  • This then allows them to invest in their organizations, without relying on donor funding.

We love this. They love this. It works.

This is my first time. How do I create my own volunteer project with the partner?

  • We totally get you & walk you through every step to decide on a project based on your personal goals. Let’s take an example of a potential project.

  • Let’s say you are studying to be a teacher & are passionate about disability activism. You also secretly love Instagram & wanna learn how to create educational materials for youth. We would help you plan an Instagram campaign using stories to build literacy for Deaf youth in Tanzania.

What is the impact on the partners?

  • Money to run their own orgs (yesss)

  • New innovations (designed by you!) that are stored online in a database with A Tree That Grows & the NGO, which can be shared throughout the country

  • Capacity building from A Tree that Grows on running online internship programs for their own communities

  • & sponsoring an internship for another woman through our Intern 2 Intern Program
